1. Purpose

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable mobility by expanding the use of Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) across the campus. This policy establishes the University's commitment to providing clean transportation alternatives that minimise environmental impacts, improve air quality, reduce dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles, and support a safe, accessible, and low-carbon campus environment.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all university-owned and university-operated zero-emission transportation systems, including electric vehicles, electric bicycles, conventional bicycles, and other zero-emission mobility services available to students, staff, and visitors across the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa.

3. Zero-Emission Transportation Programme

The University maintains an integrated Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Programme designed to increase the availability of sustainable transportation while reducing campus carbon emissions.

The current ZEV fleet includes:

• 15 fully electric vehicles (EVs) used for campus operations, academic activities, and transportation between university facilities affiliated with the Directorate of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine.
• 20 electric bicycles available for students and staff to support convenient, zero-emission travel throughout the campus.
• 10 conventional bicycles provided through the university's shared bicycle programme to encourage healthy, active, and emission-free mobility.
• 4 additional fully electric vehicles dedicated to providing complimentary transportation for students and staff between the campus and nearby university facilities.

Together, the university currently operates 49 zero-emission transportation units, resulting in a Zero-Emission Vehicle-to-Campus Population Ratio of 0.0048, based on a campus population of 10,195 students and staff.

4. Sustainable Mobility Initiatives

To maximise the effectiveness of the Zero-Emission Vehicle Programme, the University complements its ZEV fleet with a range of sustainable transportation initiatives, including:

• Free shuttle bus services connecting university accommodation with the campus.
• Car-sharing initiatives that reduce reliance on private vehicles.
• A no-motorcycle policy to minimise emissions and improve pedestrian safety.
• Well-connected pedestrian pathways that encourage walking between campus facilities.
• Continuous promotion of environmentally responsible transportation through awareness campaigns and sustainability programmes.

5. Environmental Benefits

The Zero-Emission Vehicle Programme contributes to the University's environmental and sustainability objectives by:

• Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving campus air quality.
• Lowering dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
• Reducing traffic congestion and demand for on-campus parking.
• Encouraging active and healthy transportation through cycling and walking.
• Supporting efficient mobility between academic buildings and university facilities.
• Strengthening the University's transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient campus.

6. Continuous Improvement

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa is committed to continuously expanding its zero-emission transportation network by increasing the number of electric vehicles and bicycles, evaluating emerging clean transportation technologies, and integrating additional sustainable mobility solutions where appropriate. Future developments will prioritise innovations that further reduce emissions, improve accessibility, and enhance transportation efficiency across the campus.

8. Review

This policy shall be reviewed annually by the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa to ensure continual improvement of the Zero-Emission Vehicle Programme and alignment with institutional sustainability objectives, technological developments, and the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings methodology.
