The first master's thesis defence for international students admitted to Iraqi universities under the "Study in Iraq" programme took place. The initiative was launched by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, in 2023.

The thesis, submitted by Marwa Al-Muwajda from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, specialised in chemistry at the College of Science, University of Mosul, was approved. Her research, titled "The Role of Thiosulphate Sulfotransferase in Type 2 Diabetes," was evaluated by an academic committee comprising experts from the University of Mosul’s College of Science and the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at Mutah University, Jordan.

It is worth noting that Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi has announced the admission of over 3,000 international students into Iraqi universities across the first and second editions of the "Study in Iraq" programme for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is preparing to launch the third edition for the 2025/2026 academic year.
