Professor Dr. Adeeb Ahmed Al-Zubaidi, Head of the Pharmacology Department at the College of Medicine, Warith Al-Anbiya University, was awarded a patent titled:
(The Effect of Topical Isoxoperine in Treating Imuquimod-Induced Psoriasis in Mice)
Issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control.
Izoxoperine is a well-known drug used to improve problems resulting from poor blood circulation. In this study, it was prepared as a topical ointment and tested on laboratory mice (Swiss white mice) that had previously been induced with psoriasis-like symptoms using imiquimod, a substance that causes skin scaling, redness, and thickening. The results showed that topical application of isoxoperine for eight days:
1- Significantly reduced skin scaling and redness.
Reduced inflammation and epidermal thickness.
2- Reduced the accelerated growth of skin cells and the formation of new blood vessels.
3- Did not record any significant side effects compared to the group of mice treated with imiquimod alone. The study concluded that topical isoxoperine had a significant therapeutic effect against in vitro-induced psoriasis in mice.
